PACT is seeking applicants for Center Assistant at the Macomb Center. This exempt position
is full-time, Monday through Friday, year-round. Starting pay is $20.75 per hour, with extra for
college degree.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Provides substitutes for center teachers, teacher aides, cook, transporters
    and bus monitors. Substitutes for teaching staff when needed.
    2 Participates in the recruitment and enrollment of HS & EHS children.
  2. Maintains DCFS personnel records, substitute, volunteer, children’s
    records and center records. Monitors DCFS files for EHS & HS children.
    Maintains confidentiality of family and program records and information.
  3. Completes and maintains required financial, USDA food program forms
    and reports. Utilizes ChildPlus software for child and family records.
  4. Oversees inventory control of center equipment, furniture, supplies,
    materials, and other resources in conjunction with Site Supervisor.
    6 Communicates with the Site Supervisor regularly to establish center needs.
  5. Serves as center receptionist. Responsible for incoming calls and transfer of
    calls to appropriate parties.
  6. Distributes incoming mail and faxes and takes responsibility for outgoing mail.
  7. Ensures the health & safety of children and staff during all program activities.
  8. Assists with maintenance and day-to-day upkeep of center facilities.
  9. Conducts health and safety inspections of indoor/outdoor environments and routine
    monitoring of classroom routines.
  10. Carries overall responsibility for compliance with Head Start Program Performance
    Standard workplans, Standard Operating Procedures and Illinois Department of Public Health’s
    Sanitation and CACFP Regulations, and federal, state, and local government rules and
    regulations. Supports the agency’s mission and philosophy.
  11. To the extent able, performs such other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the
    Supervisor, or as may be required under applicable agency programs, contracts, or
    grants.

Qualifications include:
A) Must be 21 years of age or older, and
B) Must have an Associate, Bachelor, or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education OR
C) a degree in a related field and 21 hours in Early Childhood with experience teaching
preschool children OR
D) A BA/BS degree and be admitted into Teach For America program

 1. Types, copies, and assembles correspondence, reports and other materials including program work plans, manuals and inventory lists, etc.  Laminates program materials. 

Tracks program records on Child Plus data tracking system.  Files and maintains paperwork, including Home Visit Reports and inkind.  Maintains up-to-date program and children’s records.  Assists with program monitoring of component files. Maintains confidentiality of family and program records and information.       

Conducts check-in, marking, inventorying, and distributing of administrative and program supplies.  Assists with inventory control/tracking for equipment. 

 Serves as program receptionist.  Responsible for incoming calls and for transfer of calls to appropriate parties, etc. 

Maintains staff schedules and program calendar. 

Logs and distributes incoming mail and takes responsibility for outgoing mail. 

Assists in the development of and preparation of forms, handouts, etc. 

Maintains supply room supplies and inventories and fills staff requests for supplies.  

Maintains Parent Employment Opportunities Surveys and uses the information from the surveys to notify parents of vacant employment positions.  

Assumes responsibility for the familiarity of and compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.  Supports the agency’s mission and philosophy. 

To the extent able, performs such other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor, or as may be required under applicable agency programs, contracts, or grants.  Ensures the health and safety of children during all program activities.

Requires effective organizational and time management skills in order to accurately complete program records and submit required program materials according to agency time lines. 

Requires reliable transportation, a valid Illinois drivers’ license, and proof of insurance requirements for automobile insurance. 

Requires the ability to pass a medical examination certifying freedom from communicable disease upon offer of employment. 

Requires the ability to lift, push, pull, and carry program materials and supplies in and out of offices, up to 30 lbs, or assess the lift load in order to ask for necessary assistance. 

Requires the knowledge of office methods, practices, procedures. 

Requires basic knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation. 

Requires the ability to type and file accurately. 

Requires the ability to use the telephone, computers, calculator, copier, fax machine, shredder, and laminating machine.
